Both the Union and Confederate States had their share of POW camps and inhumane treatment of their prisoners. The most infamous were Andersonville, GA for the Confederacy and Elmira, NYfor the Union. There were over 400,000 total prisoners in 150 camps and over 10% of the total casualties during the war occurred in the camps.
